Undergraduate programs:

Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology (DCSIT) - 25 credits

For the first time in Bangladesh, a program has been designed for the individuals who are interested in a quick entry into the job market of computer sciences and information technology related fields. This is a two semester long program and a student is required to complete only eight selected courses of the CS/IT curriculum to graduate. A graduate of this program automatically qualifies to continue their education toward an associate and bachelor degree by transferring all the courses directly into the new program. Minimum requirement for admission into this program is a high school equivalent diploma from any discipline.

Diploma in Telecommunication Engineering (DTE) - 24 credits

For the people who are interested in a career in the telecommunications industry now have an opportunity to earn a diploma in TE in just one year time. Minimum admission requirement for this program is a high school diploma in science and mathematical background. Students from other discipline may be admitted into this program following completion of the university foundation courses. Students of other CS/IT programs may take the TE courses as electives or to declare a "minor" in TE.

Associate of Science in Computer Science (AS-CS) - 68 credits

Southern University is the first degree granting academic institution in Bangladesh to introduce this program based on North American model. This is a two year degree program in Computer Science. After completion of this program a student earns an associate of science (AS) degree. This degree is equivalent to the diplomas offered by the public and private institutes. Along with other courses, a combination of CS and IT courses are taught in this program. A student with an associate degree can enroll into a bachelor degree program in computer science or information technology transferring most of the credits to the new program and thus begin as an advanced student from the 3rd year level. Graduates of this program can expect to transfer to an foreign undergraduate degree granting school to continue their education toward a bachelor degree program as well. Minimum entrance requirement for this program is Higher Secondary Schooling (HSC) or an international high school level diploma.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Information Technology (BS-CS/IT) - With an option for dual major! - 130-5 credits

Under the new curriculum, the BS in CS/IT programs are now divided in to two separate programs,

 1. BS in Computer Science (CS):

Under this program, a student will be prepared for the core computer science and software engineering processes. This program stresses more on theoretical concepts and less on applications. Students who aspire to enter research and developmental areas in the computer science enroll in this program. Graduates of this program normally aspire for MS-CS programs leading to PhD's.

 2. BS in Information Technology (IT):

This program stresses more on application and practical use of computer science tools and techniques (both software and hardware), and less on theories. The purpose of this program is to prepare students to handle real world business IT environment. They are expected to play managerial role in the business IT departments. Therefore, some business courses are added to this curriculum. Graduates of this program normally aspire for the MS-IT or MBA programs at the next level.

3. BS in Computer Science and Information Technology (CS/IT):

Students who are interested in a dual major take all the required courses in both the CS and IT majors. In today’s world, getting a dual major could mean more options and opportunities.

Undergraduate CS/IT course curriculum: Courses without pre-requisites can be taken in any sequence. 12 credit hours per semester is required to be considered a full time student.
