Southern University of Bangladesh is located at the south-eastern part of Bangladesh called Chittagong. The region with its lash green beauty that stands as the historic gateway to Bangladesh. 1998: To fulfill the academic, moral and practical needs of business graduates with computer knowledge the Institute of Management & Information Technology (IMIT) was established with joint enrollment program with American Universities to offer Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs in a variety of disciplines.
2000: IMIT became an affiliated institute of Preston University, USA.
2001: The sponsors of the institute formed a non-profit organization called AJ Foundation under which Southern University was established. AJ Foundation has been registered under the Societies Regulation Act XXI of 1860, Issue 574, CHC 151, 2001
2002: To offer high qulaity educational opportunities in order to enable students to reach their individual academic goals, Southern University Bangladesh absorbed IMIT under the guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC) Bangladesh, which is the highest accredited body for Bangladeshi universities. UGC and the Ministry of Education of the Govt. of Bangladesh recognizes Southern University's curriculum and approves it as one of the legal private universities in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
